Research interests:

Catherine's research background spans from the behavioral study of complex brain disorders such as autism and schizophrenia to the neuroscience of learning and memory. In her post-baccalaureate research, she investigated research questions involving the localization and nature of visual memory and auditory processing in the brain. She focused on the molecular, anatomical, and electrophysiological foundations of visual recognition memory in the perirhinal cortex, a brain structure implicated in mediotemporal lobe memory impairment as a result of Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy, stroke, or traumatic brain injury. She is interested in exploring the relationship between neuroanatomy, neuropharmacology, and complex or pathological behaviors or brain disorders.

Personal bio:

Catherine is from Virginia originally but grew up a Marylander. She graduated in 2012 from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County with degrees in biological sciences and psychology. She became interested in science and medicine when she was tiny because of a family history of autism. In her spare time she is usually playing with animals, exploring, fishing, running, cooking, or fixing something. She will rarely be seen wearing shoes and can often be spotted jogging around Richmond or standing in the James River barefoot.
