Research Interests:

Saahil’s research background is widespread, ranging from his work in academia on microelectromechanical sytems (MEMS) to his research in the industry on coal froth flotation. Since shifting his academic interests to the biomedical sciences, Saahil has explored the effect of surfactants on dental hydroxyapatite growth and the role of vinyl-pyrrolidone- and cellulose-based excipients in drug delivery and solubilization. For his Master’s thesis, Saahil used adenoviral gene therapy to upregulate the proteoglycan decorin in a tissue-engineered model of the skin in order to help prevent hypertrophic scar development after burn injury. At VCU, Saahil hopes to combine his interests in medicine and engineering through research involving tissue engineering, stem cells, and extracellular matrix signaling.

Personal Bio:

Saahil was born in Montreal, Quebec but grew up in Central Florida in the small town of Lecanto, Florida. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, he moved back to Canada for two years where he studied at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta. Saahil’s interests outside of academics include watching college sports (Go Gators!), playing board games, and cooking. He also loves watching movies, reading the news, and traveling to other countries. He is looking forward to exploring Richmond and is excited to be back on the East Coast.
