Jeremy Meier

Jeremy Meier Education:

University of Virginia, B.S. in Biology, B.S. in Biochemistry 2008
Hometown: Alpharetta, GA
PhD Advisor: Andrew Larner, MD, PhD
Graduate Program: CCTR

Research Interests:

Jeremy’s research focuses on signal transduction at the level of the mitochondria.  His thesis work examined how the mitochondrial pool of STAT3 can be modulated by a number of signaling cascades, and via binding to Cyclophilin D, regulate reactive oxygen species production.   Through a greater knowledge of these signaling events his hope is to identify other possible targets for cancer therapeutics. This will hopefully tie into his future clinical and research goals of working in the field of oncology.

Personal Bio:

Jeremy was born in Syracuse, NY, and lived there for 11 years until his family moved to Rhode Island and then Alpharetta, GA. After graduating from the University of Virginia, he worked as a laboratory technician in the Cardiovascular Research Center that further fueled his passion for research. He was married in 2009, and he and his wife have welcomed both their daughter and son to their family since starting the MD/PhD program in 2010.  They love going to parks, the zoo, children's museums, and enjoying everything that life in Richmond has to offer. Jeremy also enjoys watching and playing all sports, and is a huge Syracuse Orangemen basketball fan.
