Students enrolled in the Virginia Commonwealth University MD-PhD program complete both medical and PhD training in a median of eight years. Although each phase primarily focuses on its degree-specific training, the MD and PhD programs and coursework are integrated so that our students receive specific science training while in medical school and continue clinical training throughout graduate school. The medical school curriculum that began with the entering class in 2013 offers multiple opportunities for the MD-PhD Program to innovate and adds more flexibility to the curriculum. The 2013 entering class was the first to be taught entirely in the James W. and Frances G. McGlothlin Medical Education Center, built specifically for medical school education.
